After first taking care of themselves and their family, team members are allowed to self deploy only when the Emergency
Broadcast System is activated for their geographic area. The Team may also be activated at the discretion of the Daisy
Mountain Fire Department whenever it is deemed necessary. Activation decisions are only to be made by persons at the
rank of Battalion Chief or higher.

Only CERT trained individuals who have completed prerequisites, required Continuing Education (CE) and who have
been properly credentialed may respond.

The Community Emergency Response Team is trained to evaluate their homes and neighborhoods immediately
following a disaster. Members are trained to make continual size ups throughout their activation. They are trained to
asses needs and predict the next challenges that their communities and themselves will be faced with. The Team has
been taught to survive on their own, for up to 72 hours. They have been trained and are prepared not to depend on
adequate emergency services or a normal infrastructure.

The Daisy Mountain Fire Department Community Emergency Response Team can be used for;

1.         Reconnaissance.

2.         Light search and rescue.

3.         Triage of wounded

4.         Basic First Aid

5.         Set up of a temporary evacuation shelter or shelters.

6.         Information dissemination.

7.         Assist with community evacuation processes.

The Daisy Mountain Fire Department Community Emergency Response Team is very capable and continually trained.
But, they are also volunteers and always asked to help never to be ordered or forced. The Daisy Mountain Fire
Department accepts responsibility for the team at all times while it is deployed. Therefore the team is not to be deployed
by any other agency.

Three examples of D.M.F.D. C.E.R.T. activations.

1.         The team manned two public information booths during the Cave Creek Complex Wildfire. Their duties included
accepting information on the fire's daily progress and its expected growth or direction from the Incident Commend
Team's Public Information Officers. Setting up the booths each day at two different locations.

Displaying maps and handing out informational pamphlets. They answered any questions they could and taught the
citizens best ways to protect themselves and their property.

2.         The Team quickly opened up a temporary evacuation shelter in a New River church while the Daisy Mountain Fire
Department fought a fast moving wildfire. The fire was in the New River and forced the evacuation of approximately 12
homes as a precaution.

3.         Our team was asked to deploy to the Veterans Memorial Coliseum on the night of September 4th 2005. While
there they assisted with the in-taking of Hurricane Katrina Evacuees. The team was instrumental in helping the evacuees
negotiate the Coliseum and the many services being offered.
