Hazardous Materials

Daisy Mountain Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials team is located at Fire Station 141, 43814 N. New River Road. 17 DMFD members attended and successfully passed the 200 hour Hazardous Materials Technician.  The class taught members a variety of skills including spill control, decontamination, reconnaissance, research and hands on training on specialized tools and equipment. These Technicians attend continuing education classes to stay current on the latest training methods.

The training was paid for by a $50,000 Department of Homeland Security Federal grant through the Urban Area Security Initiative. These grants are distributed to most effectively allocate funds to agencies that can provide the greatest regional impact. Daisy Mountain Fire is the northernmost department in Maricopa County and has 2 significant transportation corridors as well as a wide array of critical infrastructure to protect. DMFD is currently awaiting results from the 2009 UASI grant process for equipment and a vehicle to fully outfit a Hazardous Materials Response Team.
